This is an Olympic year, with the Olympic Games of Peking, and Hong Kong for the equestrian events, towering over all. Notwithstanding, Greek Riding has organized five top international events to take place at the Olympic Equestrian centre in Markopoulo, competitions which promise to draw the attention of riders all over the world.

Following on the immense success of the "Onassis" International Show Jumping Events last year, the Hellenic Equestrian Federation has taken on the organization of three international events, in addition to the World Cup, which is now held every year, and a European Championship. For the first time, international competitions will be held in Markopoulo in May, when the first of these events take place. The competition Athens CSI2* will take place from 23rd to 25th May, followed the week after by the Athens CSI2*-W, from 30th May to 1st June. The results of the latter will count towards the riders' score in the South Central European League to which Greece belongs.

In July the Hellenic Equestrian Federation will, for the first time, organize the European Children's Show Jumping Championship, which attracts great interest. This will be the third such Championship, the other two having both been held in Constantinople. At the same time, Junior riders will have the opportunity to participate in an international event, the Athens CSIJ-A.

The international events will continue in the autumn with two very important shows. From 28th to 30th September, the Athens CSI2* will be held, while from 2nd to 5th October the World Cup Athens CSIO4*-W will take place for the fifteenth consecutive time.

It is my firm belief that the five international events will meet with every success. We are convinced that the top names in the international field of riding will once again enjoy Greek hospitality and the best competitions in terms of both organization and competitive spirit.
